You’re probably aware Cherokee Street has the best Mexican restaurants in St. Louis. But did you know you can get waffles or pizza, eat with famous athletes, chow down on vegan pastries, and more? Whatever your preferred cuisine is, Cherokee Street probably has it. When you step off of Cherokee, the number of options gets even more overwhelming, with Nicaraguan cuisine at Fritanga, delicious brunch options, and big eats from Lona’s Lil Eats, to name a few.
We already feel spoiled, but the area’s getting even better with new neighbors on and around Cherokee. We’d like to introduce a few:
The Little Dipper opened its doors at 2619 1/2 Cherokee last month, where Smalls Tea used to be. They specialize in delicious but fast sandwiches and salads, including the namesake Little Dipper – a specialty roast beef sandwich. Owners and longtime friends Jason Paul and Thomas Everman both have extensive backgrounds in the restaurant industry and were ready to finally start their own place. The Little Dipper has already become a favorite lunchtime spot for Nebulites.
Lucky Buddha just got rolling this month at 3701 S. Jefferson. It features a diverse pan-Asian menu with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. It also has a full bar with specialty cocktails featuring Asian spirits. Nebula member Kirk Appazeller of Halo Construction is excited to start this venture as a co-owner.
Feast and St. Louis Magazines have each put Byrd & Barrel on their lists of the most anticipated new restaurants of 2015, and with good reason. Chef Bob Brazell brings experience from Monarch, Pi Pizzeria and Niche to the kitchen. Byrd & Barrel will serve up gourmet fried chicken and craft beer at 3422 S. Jefferson (in the old Popeye’s). This summer, plan on eating delicious food and drinking from an extensive craft beer list on their patio. You can even take your food to go from the drive-through window. They are slated to open this month.
We’re also excited to see Milque Toast Bar open at 2212 S. Jefferson soon. A community and arts oriented restaurant, Milque Toast Bar puts gourmet cuisine and comfort food together for unique toast recipes. You’ll be able to wash down your breakfast or snack with locally-sourced cow’s milk and house-made rice, grain and nut milks. Milque Toast Bar is brought to you by Chefs Colleen Clawson and Rachel Moeller, who are bringing together their love of milk, toast and Nutella.
