Member Profile: Sarah Berkowitz of Do314

We thought we’d celebrate 314 day by highlighting one of our members whose work celebrates all the Lou has to offer. Sarah Berkowitz of Do314 has been a Nebula member since 2012 and is one of our longest standing members!

We caught up with her to find out more about her work with Do314 and learn what she loves most about STL.

Do314 is a website and social networking community built around all the amazing events going on in and around STL every day. If you’re looking for something to do, Do314 is the place to go to find out what’s going on. They showcase every type of event- concerts, street festivals, special events and more- to keep you connected and in the know. Do314 is part of the DoStuff community which is located in 22 cities across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Sarah was first introduced to DoStuff during a trip to Austin, TX to visit her brother. While there, she participated in the organization of a few community events. The DoStuff program was born in Austin and was only operating in Austin and Chicago at that time. Sarah loved how Do512 was able to connect residents and visitors to the local music scene in Austin and create a platform to build those communities.

Upon returning to St. Louis after attending college in Wisconsin, Sarah found herself searching for things to do and not knowing what was happening and where. She saw an opportunity to help connect people to what was going on in and around their city. Sarah worked with the DoStuff team to launch Do314 here in St. Louis, making STL the third city in the country to become part of the DoStuff family.

Through her work in launching Do314, Sarah connected with Nebula staff and soon set up an office here. She realized there was no better place for her to be. Nebula allowed her to be a part of the Cherokee Street community and the emerging music scene there. She also loved the community building aspect of a coworking space, which aligns perfectly with her work at Do314 and building community around events. This sense of community and the social benefits of working in a coworking space (making new friends, fun office activities, and a built-in support system) have helped her build Do314 over the last 7 years.

When asked what her favorites things about St. Louis were, Sarah said:

  • We’re a city of people who really care about their communities and we’re engaged in our city.
  • We’re a city who isn’t afraid to embrace change, while still staying true to who we are.
  • We’re a city full of people who aren’t afraid to take risks and a city full of opportunities to do so.
