The Return of SLOUP

After five years, our friends at Sloup are bringing back their crowdfunding + pop-up dinner events, but with a virtual twist.

Sloup is a pop-up soup dinner that crowdfunds microgrants for arts + community initiatives in St. Louis, MO. Here’s how it works: Residents, artists + activists present their proposals to the crowd,  the crowd of attendees then votes on their favorite proposal and the winner receives all of the money raised by ticket sales for that event to follow through with their proposal.

From 2010 to 2015, Sloup has funded 60 projects + raised over $31,000. Past proposals included ideas for underground music festivals, murals, books, mobile apps and more. Now Sloup is back and ready to support more folks in the community with some great ideas! Their next event will take place on Sunday, September 27th from 6-8PM. Due to COVID-19, this month’s event will take place virtually via Zoom. Rather than enjoying your soup with a crowd of people at a specific venue, guests will pick up their soup beforehand and listen to proposals from the comfort of their own homes during the virtual event.

Have an idea that you’d like to submit? E-mail a one-page PDF proposal for your creative or community-oriented project to stlsloup@gmail.com by Sunday, September 20. If you have questions about what to include, want help putting your vision into words, or help preparing a proposal, shoot them an email.
